New Site Development Update - January 25, 2021

it's wild to see the site still has some semi-active people around! I don't remember the last time I checked in here. happy belated easter everyone! I don't think elde will ever come back, but it's nice to hang out and look at everything that used to be :>

It has been nearly ten years and we have not heard a single peep from any of the people who own/run this place.
You cannot convince me that they are now SO insanely busy that they can't even take a few minutes to post here and let us know what is happening.
I like my pets and don't want to lose them but it seems like a waste of money to keep a site going when nothing is being done.

Seriously, a small post saying "Hey all, after nearly ten years of being on a 'break' we've decided to abandon the site altogether and will take it down soon"

Is this site still being owned by the ones who created it or was it simply just shoved off to someone else who doesn't give a rats nose about this place?

I loved the pets, I loved the designs. Hell, I hate to say it, but even the community on here was SO much better than CS. I wish it would come back, but I know in my heart at this point it won't.

I TOTALLY agree. I said something similar back in 2022, but I think it was mostly blown off as admins being busy... I understand people wanted to hold out hope, but I thought it was naive, because it is not at all hard to simply say "hey, haven't forgotten about yall!!". And the longer it has been, the more clear it is; this site is abandoned. The last pets were released in 2019 and STILL do not even have their rarities available. This is a dead site. And not even a farewell. Depressing, and a spit in the face to those who have been loyal and patiently waiting for so long. And I still stand by my belief that it would be better for it not to come back... because this is a disgrace. I want admins that actually CARE about their community, and don't leave them waiting and wondering for LITERAL YEARS. At least let Eld pass with dignity, instead of letting it rot, a husk of its former self.

Agreed! Or they at least could've given the site to admins that could have kept it going.

I'm just grateful that Zayin has kept the site up for us, it's nice to visit cause I'm still extremely nostalgic for the community here and will be heartbroken if it goes dark. I do wish we could get some information on what's happened and at least a farewell if it is the end.

Also for the record I don't think it's too late to bring the site back, especially when so many people check in despite how long it's been. I ran Newbies Freebies for years, and would probably just cry if I saw a different newest member listed. I have traded off site for pets so if the site ever does return my new giveaway thread is ready to handle it. Also anyone reading this is welcome to them as well. Assuming I get my homestead reorganized by the time you read this.

Given how little a forum like this would cost to keep hosted, I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if Zayin doesn't even notice the trickle that goes to running this place. Since it was registered in '13 and is a phpBB forum with virtually no users and minimal activity, it's most likely costing 10-30 USD a month. Or the cost of a Netflix subscription. Especially since it looks like this place is on an auto-renew rather than manual, given anyone who could feasibly pay the fees from the backend haven't logged in at all.

I think that if Zayin tried to return now and say that Eldemore was back up and would be running for however long, it would take years (if at all) for a LOT of the older player base to be willing to place any trust in that statement. What is to stop Zayin or whoever it was handed off to from shutting it all down after a month because they decided it was no longer worth the effort to try and re-earn the trust of the old base? Or they decided the code needed to be updated again and put it into another hiatus? Why would people want to spend money on a website that clearly didn't mean enough to its owner to give the people who were patiently waiting an update since 2021, over five years ago now?

After being silent for so long, a lot of it just is not feasible anymore. Not to mention the code they were supposedly working on for the update would be outdated yet again by now. phpBB forums have gone through substantial updates in the interim that would have made the previous recode no longer feasible. Not to mention the immense changes in web security, certification, etc.

It would be awesome if someone picked it back up, a bit like neopets classics. I keep coming back here hoping something was updated. I absolutely love this place, the pets, the community. I made some pets and i really miss it ;w;

My concern at this point if the site does come back to releasing new pets and having new users, is the bazaar pets. Pets that were already very hard to get are basically going to be extinct since I'd bet a lot of people who had them won't come back. The re-release function they had planned would solve this for regular pets, but bazaar pets would suffer from huge scarcity if they're locked up in dead accounts and don't have any way to purchase old pets. Iirc people took issue with the previous bazaar pet re-release they had so I'm not super optimistic about pre-hiatus bazaar pets being in the trading economy in a hypothetical future re-launch.

I suppose this technically would have happened over time with natural site growth anyway and maybe if the site does come back to life, it would attract people with lots of old pets to come sell off stuff for off-site currency or something.



Also, to those saying that the admins don't care and that's why they're silent, personally I think opposite is more likely. If they didn't care about this site it would be easy to say "hey yeah we're never touching this place again bye" or even just silently pull the plug and kill it without telling anyone to save money (god knows even an extra 10 bucks a month in this economy is appreciated lol). Someone came on this year at least to update the copyright footer to say 2026 because I'm like 99% sure that's just a bit of plain text and not something that would auto update. I think because they care about this world they made that it's hard to come on and disappoint people by saying "no, no news, no progress really. we've been busy again. sorry for not talking again" or even it could be that they don't want to admit "yes it's too much" and can't let go or don't trust anyone to outsource work on their creation to. This is just projection since I don't know them, but personally I would feel anxious to keep coming on year after year just to say "hey life sucks and there's no progress or estimates because all my spare time is being used for other things" and would be reluctant to post anything unless I had something to show.

It would be nice to hear if they're still hoping to work on the site or not, I'm not denying that. But at the same time, they're only three people in the same family so if there's any ongoing personal issues, it affects all of them. When you're burnt out and life keeps throwing curveballs at you and you have mental health struggles it's hard to bring yourself to do things that seem like they should be simple. If Zayin, Bena, or Jen are reading this I hope you guys don't feel like you can't give us any general news about the fate of the site without people getting angry at y'all.

And you know, if they are all doing great and nothing's wrong and they're just simply pushing this site aside and I'm totally wrong about giving them slack, then hey, at least they're keeping the site up as an archive for us. At the end of the day it's a free browser pet game run by three people. Sometimes things you enjoy crumble away and vanish. I'd rather Eldemore fade like this than someone buying it and turning it into something where they only want to make money off it.
