{ The Swamp Pride } ╭☆╯

Setting us apart from other prides is our environment. Though Africa can go many many months without a decent amount of rain, here the water is almost always plentiful. So much in fact, this area is often called the 'swampy' part of Africa. We, as a pride, teach our cubs to hunt not only on dry land, but in the waters- which can give us a huge advantage if executed correctly. Not only are we different because of our living conditions, but also because we are united. We are a family. We are a pride.

Cape (water) Buffalo

» One of our largest targets. These big guys have sharp horns and also nasty tempers. They differ from our other food sources because of their protectiveness for their herd members, especially their calves. Even if one is isolated and taken down, the rest will do their best to fight us off. The adults have also been known to kill our cubs and even adult lions.



Impala (antelope)

» Our fastest prey by far. Because we rely on stamina and the act of surprise, not speed, these smaller antelope can be a little harder to catch. Getting as close as possible and attacking while they're off-guard is the best way to catch them.



Zebra

» Watch out for those legs! Zebras will thrash out, and one of their kicks could easily kill us, or at least break bones. Bringing them down quickly and without incident is much preferred.



Elephants & Hippopotamus
» These two are put together because of the fact they are 1) very big and 2) very very hard to take down. We, of course, only hunt juvenile and older, weak elephants. The healthy adults are just too much- even for a pride. Hippos we can handle as adults, but they need to be taken down on land. Attacking one of them in the water would be a deadly mistake. Hunting these giants at night would also be more of a smart choice because of their poor eyesight in the darkness.

Hyenas

» Cunning and also in packs, these cackling pests are not only annoying scavengers, but fierce hunters. Their bite can be much stronger even than our own. It's best to back down if you are a loan lion against a pack of hyenas. Beware of them swarming in after a kill.


Other Lions

» It is not unheard of for other lions to move in on our territory. Most of the time, intruders are rogue males that have been kicked out of their own prides by the dominant male. Very few times are the unwelcome lions female. Either way, they are to be dealt with immediately. New males especially will kill our cubs.

I. Make sure you are writing enough, please. I don't expect novels from everyone, but make sure you are not typing one or two-liners. Writer's block happens (believe me, I know), so don't be afraid to wait for muse to come.

II. God modeling (or Mary/Gary sues or whatever the hell they're called) will not be tolerated here. Studies show a lion pride's successful hunt rate is about 1 in 5, especially for larger prey.

III. Females make up most of the pride, so that's what is wanted. Cubs are also allowed, but make sure that you are not only playing cubs. Since this pride is just starting, cubs not fathered by the dominant male will be killed. (But for the sake of my male not happening to father all of these unrelated females, it's alright.)

IV. Please don't leave others out. If you have a free character and see someone else trying to get involved, go ahead and have your lion interact with them.

Pride Rules:

1. Apart from new females joining with their cubs, only the dominant male may father cubs.
2. Certain females will be lower in rank due to age, a disability, or just being new to the pride. They eat last. The top ranking females and dominant male eat first.
3. Males are kicked out when they are old enough to father cubs. They may challenge the dominate male, but they are usually kicked out before they gain enough fighting experience to stand a chance.

Personality:
Nia has a relatively calm and gentle nature most of the time. Though she's had a rough past, she doesn't let it show, especially around the cubs. Even though she currently has no cubs of her own, she has deep maternal instincts, which give her more patience and an upper hand when it comes to cub-sitting. In her old pride, she was left with cubs often as she was the most trusted to keep an eye on all of them.
However, she can be a totally different lioness if her pride is threatened. She's not afraid to use her claws and teeth to deliver any kind of major message to an intruder, such as a hyena or rogue lion.
Her biggest weakness would be her protectiveness. Her strong urges to protect cubs has gotten her injuries in the past. Her half brother has warned her about this problem getting her killed someday if she gets between a rogue lion and the cubs.
History:
Nia's mother gave birth to her, along with her two brothers, outside of a pride. Her mother had left due to being impregnated by a rogue male- not the dominate male of her pride. Not wanting her cubs to be killed, she left to have them alone. The younger boy died within hours of being born- leaving Nia with one.
Her mother did what she could to provide for them: constantly hunting to feed them all and hiding them. Nia was just one year-old when her mother left to hunt, and she and her brother were attacked by a pack of hyenas. She got away, but her brother was killed. Her mother later died from being trampled by a herd of angry cape buffalo. Nia has been on her own ever since she was about three years-old.
She joined Kumba shortly before turning four.
Family:
Kumba (dominant male) is her half brother. He's older than her, but they had the same mother.

Personality:
Kumba has done a pretty good job at maintaining his pride, even though he's been in charge a few months. He's very alert when it comes to danger and is stubborn enough to fight any challenger who wants to steal his crown. He's tough, and some scares to show it. However, he does lack some patience and can be a bully- especially when he's hungry. Cubs beware when he's mad! He would never kill his own offspring on purpose, but accidents do happen. He can be easily provoked, and doesn't appreciate cub antics during hunts (even though he sleeps during most of those).
History:
Kumba was born to the same mother as Nia, but their was a different male in charge of the pride at the time before he was kicked out by the male who would become Nia's father. Unlike Nia, he grew up as a relatively normal lion cub. He had a pride to protect him instead of a single mother. By the time he was two and a half, a new dominant male had taken over his and his mother's pride. He was considered a threat, so he was driven out. He spent a greater part of five years roaming around and occasionally joining groups of exiled males before he found this spot: the swampiest areas in Africa. Before his pride was started, he spent several months teaching himself how to hunt prey in the water. It was definitely a struggle, but he learned how to corner prey in the new environment and take them down. With a new pride forming, he's sure success will increase greatly.

Personality~ Alicea is a independent, snappy lion. Alicea sometimes snaps at cubs and flicks her tail in front of other lions. But she is a very loyal friend once you get to know her.

Family~ Dead

Image/picture~ Alicea has a light shade of golden on her tail and neck. The rest of her body is gold. She has light brown eyes and a black marking under her right eye.

History~ Alicea was born as a loner. Her mother was Mika (Mi-Ka) and her father was Ashlen (Ash-len). Her brother's name was Rumbo (Ruu-Mbo). He was chased away by his mother at four when he tried to kill Alicea. Alicea then found the Swamp pride ten days after her mother died of old age. Then Rumbo mysteriously died next to a tree. Other lions say he had been killed by Mika's spirit.

Azalea was born as a 'domestic' cub in captivity, and only had her first taste of the wild a few years later. Her mother had been seized by humans, and became so miserable and weak that she lost all hope of ever returning to her true home and passed away soon after Azalea's birth. The young lioness was crudely raised by other captive lions who taught her how to hunt and fight. There was a group of ambitious, self-serving lions that forced her to learn how to fight for food by attacking her when she was fed once a week. The older and frailer lions never stood a chance. When a lion got singled out, there was no way to intervene - unless you had a death wish. Sometimes, she would loose the skirmish and go for days without a single morsel of food. Other times, when she became desperate in her struggles, her inner wild lioness took over - and that never bode well for the malevolent thieves. After she turned three years old, she knew she could overpower them if she put her mind to it. Her jaws had grown into a set of powerful, razor-sharp teeth, her pale claws were curved to wicked points; now, she was the attacker, and a deadly one, too. During a frenzied fight for food, Azalea made a particularly powerful blow and snapped the backbone of an unfortunate young lion. The kill was made in front of her human captor's eyes. The humans quickly secluded her into a separate cage and injected her with a sleeping vaccination. Azalea later woke up in the outskirts of Swamp Pride territory, and was reluctantly accepted into the pride. At first, she was helpless, lonely, and neglected by the hostile lions. But in the few months it took for her to get used to the way of the pride, she became one of the most strong-willed and formidable lionesses and ascended to a higher rank.

Ｐｅｒｓｏｎａｌｉｔｙ
Azalea is a courageous young cat with a passion for adventure. She loves exploring the unknown and taking risks, and is always looking to find excitement in her life. She is also strong-willed, and believes she can accomplish anything she puts her mind to, and rarely thinks of failure. Because of this, she takes pride in everything she does, and refuses to hear anything negative about herself. She also isn't hurt easily by others and their words. She is loyal and faithful to her friends, pride, and work. But don't let her outgoing and somewhat naive personality fool you. If you mess with her pride or her friends, she will bite. Hard. Azalea tries not to lash out, but sometimes she can't control her impulses. This lioness isn't afraid to get her paws a dirty fighting for her friends and pride. If she gives you her trust, Azalea will always have your back.
